How to Surf The Web Safely Through Proxy

How to Surf The Web Safely Through Proxy
By Ivan A Cuxeva

When people hear or read the word "proxy" their minds start to wander and the look on their faces change, may consider such words to be too geeky to enter the common language, the fact is that the word is not self explanatory that's why it is necessary to explain the meaning and functions of such systems, you will soon learn that they are very handy.

As shown by the online etymology dictionary the word proxy comes from the term prokecye, which means "agency of one who acts instead of another." It is also contraction of Anglo-Fr.term "procuracie", from M.L. procuratia "administration," from L. procuratio "care, management," from procurare "manage"

In order to eliminate the complexity of the origins of the word we will use the first one "agency of one who acts instead of another" when we translate and incorporate such terms into the computer world, internet to be more precise, we see that some machines act on behalf of others in order to keep the requester of the information anonymous, untraceable and safe.

Proxies are web services which are free (most of the time) and provide security to internet users who browse several pages a day and are concerned with spyware, hackers and other forms of malicious applications which use the information transmitted by your browser through its header. Without using a proxy a web site which has tracking software and scripts can tell the exact geographical location of your system, in other words you can be located easily.

Another function of the proxy is to speed up your web browsing speeds by acting as a buffer which gathers the pages you request and sends it to your computer. There are three types of proxies:

Transparent proxies:

These are used by people who want to speed up their web browsing experience without hiding any information, the proxy server will reveal your system information just like you would if you were not using this service.

Anonymous:

This type of proxy speeds up your connection just like the transparent option but it doesn't transmit your IP address and system information so you remain as the name implies, anonymous. There is one small detail though, when you use anonymous proxies the servers are configured to send variables to the sites which let them know that you are using a proxy.

High Anonymity:

Through this proxy type you can speed up your connection and browse the web in a complete stealth mode. No information from your system is transmitted and the proxy server doesn't send any variables indicating you are using a proxy, this allows you to go from site to site in a faster more secure way.

As you see there is more than it meets the eyes when it comes to weird computer terms, learning how to find an configure these systems to work with your applications will allow you to remain anonymous while browsing any site.

How To Surf Blocked Sites From Schools And Workplace With New Proxy Sites

How To Surf Blocked Sites From Schools And Workplace With New Proxy Sites?
By Avner Thomas

Internet has become the biggest source of information for present world. However, the freedom of surfing is ceased in places like schools and colleges. In such places, where they cannot risk students and workers using porn and other objectionable sites which drive them off their duties, surfing has become a difficult task. The internet providers in such places block these sites and therefore the students and workers are restricted from using many resources.

Because of this, they are not able to use many valuable resources of the online world. And in certain situations, we are supposed to cross the limit. In such a time, people can either stay helpless as usual or just use a simple means to cross the boundary. One of such means is a proxy. With a proxy, users are able to visit a blocked site with the impression that he or she is visiting another site which is not blocked.

However, time changes everything. Once, the internet providers know that the users are using proxies to visit the blocked sites, they also start blocking those proxies used by their users. This is the biggest problem at present. Almost every online surfer knows about anonymous browsing and how to use anonymity as a way to visit blocked sites. But almost all of those proxy sites they know are also blocked by the provider. So, the problem is no more about using or not using a anonymous site but it's also about whether the proxy site they are trying to use is blocked or not.

Here comes the solution to this problem. A few sites provide lists of proxy sites which are updated regularly so that by the time users find these proxies, they will allowed by their internet providers. Also, once a proxy has been blocked, they will release or come up with new proxies. Some of these sites also have emailing facility through which they will email you lists of proxy sites every day or every week. This will keep you updated in the knowledge of anonymous browsing and in fact, is the only solution at the time. But, I also warn you not to disclose your email to suspicious sites. Many sites can simple take your email and spam you later or just sell your email to other companies.

Ok, where will I find these sites??

There are many sites that I can list but the best way is to have a little search on Google or yahoo. You would probably search for the keyword "latest proxy sites". Or you can simply visit my site which offers the same facilities I mentioned above.

Anonymous Proxies - What Is An Anonymous Proxy

Anonymous Proxies - What Is An Anonymous Proxy?
By Josh Saunders

Being a computer nerd and active in the IT field for 20 plus years I am constantly asked about anonymous proxies, what they are and why they are needed.

An anonymous proxy is another computer located somewhere else (usually in a foreign country) acting as a server to pass your http requests. In easy to understand terms this means you type in google into your web browser, and your browser has been configured to use a proxy. Instead of fetching the page directly from Google, your web browser will go to the anonymous proxy and then the proxy will fetch the Google page and send it back to you. OK so now you ask "Why would I want to do that?". When you visit the Google (or any other site for that matter) directly, your web browser passes on information to the website you are visiting. Such information may include your IP address. This is a numerical value assigned to your computer by your ISP and is quite literally the "doorway" to your computer. Armed with your IP address, a hacker could start port scanning your PC looking for weaknesses to take advantage of without you knowing it.

If you visit websites under a proxy, the sites you visit will not see your real IP address but instead the IP address of the proxy. It is very easy to configure your browser to use a proxy by simply changing your settings. Now you ask, "Where can I find a proxy at?". I see lists all the time that show free "open" proxies. This may not be a good idea as you never know exactly who is behind the proxy. It may well be a honey pot set up by some three letter agency therefore, staying away from the free lists is probably a good idea.

There are commercial services available and one I personally use is Ultimate Anonymity which has been around for over ten years now. They provide proxies as well as a nifty tool to switch proxies on the fly without having to ever touch your web browsers settings to make it really simple.

They also provide an Online Privacy Test to show you exactly what your web browser reveals about you. Note that once you have configured your browser for a proxy you can go back to this page to see that a totally different IP address is showing meaning you have setup properly. this means the first time you visit the page, it will show your real IP address. Once your browser is configured for a proxy and you revisit the page, it should show a different IP address.

In this day and age, privacy is crucial. Its good to remember that if a hacker or phishing website can't see you, they can't bother you. Identity theft protection starts with simple things like anonymous proxies and should not be overlooked.

It is always a good idea to have a good anti virus program as well as a properly configured firewall on your computer or network. Privacy services are a good addition, not substitution for these items.

See Your Hotmail and Myspace Accounts From the Office

See Your Hotmail and Myspace Accounts From the Office
By Mike Paul

Don't let the local network censorware get you down. With a few simple steps you can bypass the local web filters and see sites from work like hotmail and myspace.

With the increasing number of companies now using some kind of censorware in the workplace more and more people are blocked from selected websites, you donot need to be one of them. Many people have valid reasons to visit such site even form work on occasion. Getting access approval from the IT department can be a slow process and may take so long that the information is no longer timely.

One of the easiest ways to circumvent these in-house road blocks is to use a cgi proxy server script to bypass local network filters. These CGI proxy servers are accessible from "bypass websites” that provide these services for free or on a subscription basis. These sites are the front end of what is know as cgi bypass proxy servers.

A bypass website is a web-based page that takes a site that is blocked locally and "bypasses" restrictions on visiting specific sites by local network filters by displaying blocked pages on an unblocked website, enabling you to view the blocked websites. CGI proxy servers allow bypassing filters not only for sites like myspace and hotmail but can also be abused for viewing adult sites. Once you have bypassed the local web filter its like having a completely unrestricted web access.

The most common use of cgi proxy scripts is in workplaces and schools. These institutions install on the main network servers filters that block access to sites bvased on the sites URL containing keywords on a list such as hotmail, myspace, porn, sex, etc..... Many blocking programs block not only selected websites but also known bypass proxy sites because they are trying to block the loophole in their filters. That means that every now and then you need to find new bypass proxy sites. The best way to locate fresh CGI proxy sites is to search using google or yahoo, if your network administration is very active in blocking sites with cgi proxy scripts you may need to subscribe to one of the e-mail update services that send out notices every time they learn about a new bypass site.

When you have a located an accessible bypass website all you will need to do to surf the web is enter the URL of the site you want to visit. Options are available to block cookies and java scripts. In order to get the full function of the sites you are visiting normally you will need to check these items. Other benefits include that the site you are visiting will not be able to see exactly were you are connecting form because the cgi proxy script protects that information.

The use of CGI proxy servers is usually safe however care should be given about entering sensitive information such as credit card numbers, additionally passwords should regularly for increased security.

Enjoy Unrestricted net access start using cgi proxy sites today!

How to Find a Proxy for Facebook

How to Find a Proxy for Facebook
By Naren Verma

Proxies allow you to surf the internet with a high level of privacy, security and anonymity. When you access a website from the proxy server site, information like your browser type, location, operating system and IP address is eliminated and the proxy server website is recorded as the accessing computer instead of your computer. This helps you maintain the privacy, security and anonymity you desire, as it facilitates web browsing without your information being identified and bypasses the network filters and firewalls.

The process is very simple and convenient. You are not required to install or download any software to browse the blocked sites. All you have to do is type the desired URL (for example: www.facebook.com) on the main page and all connections and traffic to and from the destination URL is redirected via the proxy, making it look as if the traffic is evolving from the main proxy, thus bypassing the domain based URL filtering blocking system.
These proxies allow you to access any website without revealing your personal information, surf, download games and news, access online social networking websites and shopping sites, share videos, music, chat and a lot more.

When you use a proxy server, your computer establishes connection with the proxy instead of the destination website, and thus the blocking or filtering firewall will be able to trace this connection only. Further this proxy server, which may be transparent or anonymous, will create a connection to the desired URL which you want to access such as Facebook.com, and retrieve that website, eliminating any trace of your computer.

The proxies allow users to browse through the Facebook website, profiles, post comments, blogs and surf the site for music. Sometimes, you may be required to use the IP address of the proxy (i.e. http://200.10.10.12), instead of the domain name, which can be retrieved by pinging the URL from command prompt.

The number of web proxies is everyday increasing and more and more are being setup to earn revenues through advertisements. To search for proxies for websites like Facebook, you can use the search engines like Yahoo or Google. There are a number of websites offering these services and you can choose any of them as per your requirement. These proxies are Youtube and Facebook compatible and you can access any blocked site which is blocked by your school, university or company.
